Mega Bokeh

In case you can’t tell, I’m just a little enamored by the plumb tree blossoms in my backyard. The effect produced by closing down the aperture all the way with a macro filter attached is pretty neat.

Wicked Blossoms

I was always amused by the use of the term “wicked” as a synonym of awesome or sweet. So this is a tribute to any New Englanders who might see this.

This is the plumb tree in our back yard; it’s finally beginning to show some life after the winter months!

IR Macro

I got my IR720 filter in the mail today; this will be my first foray into IR photography, so don’t hold your breath. I’m still playing with the WB to get the colors right. If I don’t convert the image to greyscale, the picture turns out quite red. Anyway, this is an 8-second shot in full daylight!

Cats ‘n’ Dogs

We let the fire in our woodstove go out this weekend, and our animals are really unhappy about the whole situation. In a desperate act, the Lab and the cat decided to call a truce and share a bed — though, I’m not sure they’re too happy about that, either.

Coinage

Over the years, I’ve collected a fair amount of foreign coins–mainly for curiosity’s sake. When my great-grandfather passed away, he left me a couple of wooden boxes with various coins from all over the world, some with really neat traits. Some are donut-shaped, others are square, and a few have that interesting flower-look to them like this Indian coin. Perhaps I’ll do a post on these later.

Refill?

Just playing with light and some water. Yes, just water.
I found a new free program to process RAWs, and I’m going to give it a try a bit later. Right now I’m not getting the results I quite want. Eventually I’ll break down and purchase Lightroom or Photoshop (or both).
