Unwanted Guests

So, I received and finished working on my new favorite lens, a Minolta 50mm 2.8 Macro. When I got it, it was in perfect condition, except the focus was extremely tight. After some tinkering and some nerve-wracking dremel work, I managed to get the focus ring straightened out and everything works great now! These are some aphids that were residing on the tomato blossoms out back. For scale, that petal is about 1/2″ long.

Dark Blossoms

I set up my camera and had some fun with a flashlight the other night. I had a hard time with some of the macros, but I’ll hopefully get some better shots up later.

Mega Bokeh

In case you can’t tell, I’m just a little enamored by the plumb tree blossoms in my backyard. The effect produced by closing down the aperture all the way with a macro filter attached is pretty neat.

Wicked Blossoms

I was always amused by the use of the term “wicked” as a synonym of awesome or sweet. So this is a tribute to any New Englanders who might see this.

This is the plumb tree in our back yard; it’s finally beginning to show some life after the winter months!
